Author/Background Info
This stanza in the psalm is all about magnifying God’s laws and showing how awesome they are. The author reminds us that God rules through his words and that we should always seek his guidance through the divine revelation of his word.
The writer also expands our thinking about God’s laws. He skillfully reminds us that God’s laws are often depicted by broad usage words. For instance, commandments, sayings, judgments, statutes, words, ordinances, instructions, precepts, injunctions, testimonies, promise, way and path. (KJV)
At least one of these words occurs in almost every verse of the 119th psalm.
Devotional Thought
The palmist begins the second stanza of the psalm (Vs 9-16) by asking, “How can a young man stay pure? He quickly answers, “Only by living in the Word of God and walking in its truth.” (Vs 9 TPT) What a great verse! As easy as it sounds, not everyone has begun that journey, yet it is key to living in the fullness of God.
He proceeds to declare, “I consider your Word to be my greatest treasure, and I treasure it in my heart to keep me from committing sin’s treason against you.” (Vs 11 TPT) Could he be saying that something as easy as memorizing and valuing scripture could be the key preserving our life from sin? I think so. Wow, what a truth!
He doesn’t stop there. He shows us another simple step to grasping God’s word, “I speak continually of your laws as I recite out loud your counsel to me.” (Vs 13 TPT) The confession of God’s word is literally counsel to our hearts and minds as we declare it out loud.
So, the question is this, “will you simply start speaking God’s word everyday over your life and circumstances?”
Evidently David did it! Do you? If not, go ahead and find a promise from God’s word and declare it out loudto yourself! Try speaking it in prayer to God …and even to the devil if you need to!
This is really, really good, thank you!!!
